Ridge Ornament: Chofa Garuda
Temple ridge ornament said, according to interpretations, "Garuda" (Sanskrit: Eagle), mount of the god Vishnu or "Hong / Hamsa" (Thai: Hong / Sanskrit: Hamsa) representing the mythical bird or swan / goose, animal vehicle (vâhana) of the god Brahma. Carved wood, vestige of red and gold polychromy (Brahma colors). Beautiful patina marked with remains of lichens. Thailand, late 18th / early 19th century. Delivered with its white or black steel base, adjustable inclination of the chofa. Provenance: Estate of collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau. Sold with certificate of provenance.
