A beautiful and decorative 19th-century Louis XVI style desk, alcove, or library clock in gilt bronze and marble, in the form of a fluted column surmounted by an enamel dial. It rests on a sculpted base of white Carrara marble, embellished with chased bronze elements, supported by six small feet, themselves resting on a beautifully ornamented, projecting giltwood base. This clock is a true "curiosity," with its lovely white enamel dial adorned with floral garlands and Arabic numerals, itself surrounded by bronze ornaments in the form of a Louis XVI knot and quiver, and cascading flowering foliage. This piece, in very good condition, with its chased gilt hands, will tell the time silently, as it has no striking mechanism.
