Beautiful Icon "christ The Pentecostal". Central Russia, 1880. Expertly Examined In Munich, High Quality.
Artist: ?
A reasonable price for this beautiful Russian icon from Central Russia depicting "Christ the Pentokrator," showing an open book of the Gospel, dating from 1880. This sturdy wooden panel, carefully braced on the back to prevent warping, is delicately painted over a remarkable gold leaf cover. The icon shown here (31.3 cm x 26.9 cm) depicts Christ the Pentokrator on the theme of the Creation. See the Munich Art Icon Handbook of 1985, page 285. The Savior is shown half-length with his right hand raised in blessing. In his left hand, he holds the open Book of the Gospel, with biblical passages such as "You are burdened, weary, arise and come to me!" The icon is from Central Russia, from the post-decorative period, a work dating from around 1880 by the House of Russia. A remarkable piece in pristine condition, it was examined by the German Museum in Munich, whose descriptive certificate I have just translated at the time the piece was submitted for examination.
