A charming portrait of the young Charles Henri d'Estaing, this oil painting on its stretcher, dating from the mid-18th century and annotated at the time with the name d'Estaing, depicts the young officer who would become the future Commander of the National Guard. He was Governor of Touraine in 1785 and a member of the Assembly of Notables in 1787. Born in 1729 at the Château de Ravel, he died in 1794, guillotined during the French Revolution; a hero of the American Revolution and a celebrated man of commitment.
