"Louis XIV Period Letter Box With Secret Compartment"
A Louis XIV period letter box with a secret compartment. Second half of the 17th century. Rectangular in shape, this box is made of wood covered in red morocco leather with gilt tooling and roulette decoration on all sides. Its front features two hooks, a hasp, and a heart-shaped keyhole escutcheon, all in gilt iron. The interior, with four compartments, retains its original marbled paper lining. The left side of the box slides upwards to conceal a secret drawer, also lined with marbled paper. The original lock is functional and fitted with an antique key. Dimensions: W 32 x D 22 x H 12
