"18th Century Italian Hunting Cutlass"
This sturdy hunting cutlass is impressive. It is Italian and dates from the 18th century. It is in its original, discoveringcondition, never cleaned, never restored, with a beautiful patina from use.
BLADE : It is a thick, single-edged blade. A fine fuller runs along each face. Near the ricasso, there are four serrated notches on th ecutting edges,  designed to cut tendons and possibly bones. The back edge of the blade shows numerous marks from use as a cutting board cleaver. The blade is attached to the hilt by a baluster-shaped steel section.
Blade length = 27 cm, width at the ricasso = 4.4 cm, thickness at the ricasso = 10 mm.
GRIP : It has eight facets, is made of dark horn, and showss brass tabs in the center of each face. Brass ferrules. The pommel is brass and decorated with a small flower where the tang of the blade is riveted.
A fine hunting accessory, rarely found on the market.
