Large Mahogany Chessboard Coffee Table, Jansen Style – Part 2, 20th Century

This large mahogany coffee table is distinguished by its rarity and singular elegance. The reverse-painted glass top, a true work of art, blends gilded swirls and painterly nuances in a subtle interplay of contrasts. A large chessboard painted on the underside also adorns this unusual table. The black squares stand out against a background of blended tones, evoking the cosmos and its shimmering light. The corners of the tabletop are embellished with floral motifs and star-shaped medallions in red and blue accents, adding a touch of opulence inspired by the decorative arts. Surrounded by a brass frame, this tabletop rests on a solid structure with a base inlaid with brass stringing, connected by a stretcher that reinforces the balance and presence of the whole.
