Bust of Napoleon I, Empire period. Description: Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741–1828), after a representation of Emperor Napoleon I in the uniform of the Foot Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard. A substantial biscuit porcelain bust, after the famous marble model held at the Palace of Versailles (MV 1518). The reverse is marked in relief: "Official Bust / Napoleon Emperor / 1805," surmounted by the fictitious mark "Manufacture Impériale de Sèvres." The whole rests on a porcelain pedestal with a beautiful blue ground, itself placed on a square gilt bronze base, giving the work a strong decorative presence. Condition – Restorations: Very good overall condition. Note: a small, old chip on the pedestal, not serious. The bust has retained its original patina, which has been intentionally preserved. A light surface cleaning, due to age, has been carried out, without altering the historical appearance of the work.
