He was born to a family originally from Cremona, in the Cento hamlet of Corporeno, and after his first apprenticeship in his father's workshop, he moved to Bologna in 1569, where, having joined the Compagnia dei Pittori, he held important positions. With his very active workshop, he created numerous decorative works, although few are still visible, and his currently known works on canvas are even rarer.
