Louis Dage (1885-1964) - Pair Of Signed Ceramic Vases - Art Deco, Circa 1925-1935
The hand-painted decoration depicts a stylized seascape: a sailboat on a green sea, an orange sunset, framed by large circular black cartouches, against a deep cobalt blue background with cloudy effects.
The composition, both geometric and poetic, is fully in keeping with the Art Deco aesthetic: simplified forms, graphic lines, contrasting bright colors and flat planes.
The two vases form a striking pair.
Louis Dage was a major figure in French ceramics between the two world wars. Settling in Antony in the early 1920s, he developed a body of work emblematic of the Art Deco style, combining clean lines and hand-painted decorations in intense colors.
