"Chalice Vase, Opal Crystal, 19th Century."
This elegant opal crystal vase, in a hydrangea pink hue, is shaped like a chalice. The frosted glass flares at the top and is supported by a stem around which a white serpent with gold-painted scales is coiled. The serpent's head rests on a small foot. The upper and lower rims are highlighted with a wide gold band. This distinctive pink, highly prized by collectors, is rare; it is called "pigeon's throat" or "hydrangea," and this color is obtained by adding gold salts. Circa 1830-1840. Height 20 cm.
