Carved Mother-of-pearl Votive Plaque, "the Last Supper", Bethlehem Craftsmanship, 20th Century
Magnificent votive plaque, a religious/devotional object, hand-carved and openwork mother-of-pearl from Bethlehem, depicting the Last Supper, relatively recent (1960s-1990s). It has a rounded shape and a finely openwork decoration on two planes: the background, the table in low relief, and the apostles rendered in engraving and bas-relief. Between the two planes, a large, heavy piece of mother-of-pearl on the background ensures good stability. The back features a hinged, folding stand, a well-designed piece suitable for display in a study or devotional cabinet. A decorative piece, typical of religious souvenirs from the Holy Land, but larger and more detailed than common production, it looks beautiful when illuminated. It measures 16.5 cm wide, 14.3 cm high, and 3 cm thick without the stand. It is in very good overall condition, with no chips or missing pieces, the stand is functional, and the surface is well preserved. Approximately 500g.
