Pierre André Farcy, Known As Andry-farcy - A Young, Naked Redhead
Artist: Pierre André Farcy Dit Andry-farcy
Pierre André FARCY, known as ANDRY-FARCY, Charleville, 1882 – Grenoble, 1950. A young, red-haired nude woman. Oil on canvas. 27 x 40 cm. Signed lower left "Andry-Farcy". The son of a civil servant in the Ministry of Education, Pierre-André Farcy studied in Paris at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs. He also attended Cormon's studio at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He settled in Grenoble in 1907, where he supported himself through his art. Among his various artistic activities, he created illustrations and caricatures for the local press. His paintings and drawings, which he signed Andry-Farcy, were exhibited in various Salons in Paris and Lyon, as well as at the Fenoglio Gallery in Grenoble (Grenoble Museum of Fine Arts website). Andry-Farcy painted here the portrait of a beautiful young redhead in a post-impressionist style which is reminiscent of the female figures of Jean-Jacques Henner who achieved acclaim at the end of the 19th century when Andry-Farcy was still young and in his formative years.
