Dantin Old Painting Portrait Of Woman Pianist Interior Salon 1910 Paris
Paul Dantin ( attributed to ) - The pianist (probably his sister, the singer and composer Juliette Dantin)
Intimate interior, French school circa 1900/1920
Beautiful early painting, oil on canvas depicting an intimate scene in a living-room interior.
A three-quarter-length woman plays the piano, her face caught in the light, scores open on the music stand. The atmosphere is hushed, with a green background and rapid strokes that suggest the setting rather than describe it. In the tradition of modern interior scenes, the artist favors a vibrant style: free brushstrokes, broken impastos, broad brushstrokes that modulate values rather than contours. The composition, compact and efficient, refocuses the eye on the hands and keys of the keyboard; the muted range of browns, greens and blues is warmed by rosy flesh tones. The material, laid down in repeats, lends a real presence to this moment captured on the spot. An atmospheric painting, both intimate and musical.
