"Maffrash Shahsaven - Persia. Circa 1880. 122 X 55 X 45 Cm"
Extraordinary Shahsaven Maffrash originating from Persia. Maffrash are the largest carrying bags used by the nomadic populations of Persia and the Caucasus. They were transported in pairs on camelback. A true work of art, this one is entirely embroidered wool on wool. The refinement of the embroidery is absolutely remarkable; the motifs are precise, they seem sculpted from the material... The 100% plant-based dyes are breathtaking; their brilliance, luminosity, and freshness are a delight to behold. Circa 1880. Very good condition, two restorations. Dimensions: 120 x 55 x 45 cm. This type of object can easily be displayed as a chest, a coffee table, or transformed into a two-seater bench. Feel free to ask me how to proceed. For 19th-century Maffrash enthusiasts, please note that we have a whole collection (around a hundred) in the form of fragments, panels, or complete pieces like this one: Laurent Beauty of Kilims
