Pair Of Louis XVI Period Armchairs Stamped Delaporte
Artist: Martin Delaporte
PAIR OF LOUIS XVI ARMCHAIRS - 18th century, stamped DELAPORTE, with medallion backs and armrests. White lacquered wood, upholstered in brown velvet, in good overall condition. Tapered, fluted legs. A pair of stable armchairs. About: Martin Delaporte (died in 1756) - chair maker. He ran a furniture-making workshop on Rue des Filles-Dieu Saint Sauveur. Belonging to a prominent Parisian family of cabinetmakers, Martin Delaporte was a very skilled chair maker. He is credited with beautiful, well-balanced Louis XV style armchairs. The stamp MDLP was used by Martin DELAPORTE's workshop from the 1740s onwards. His stamp is also found on Louis XVI style chairs, but these were likely made by his nephew, Martin Nicolas, who took over his workshop and stamp after his death.
