"Portrait Of Christ, Painting, Late 17th/early 18th Century, Catholic Baroque, Jesus, Mignard Chapel "
Oil on canvas, late 17th - early 18th century, Baroque style, depicting a portrait of Christ with his face turned three-quarters, his gaze imploring heaven. He wears the crown of thorns, one of the symbols of his Passion, and tears of blood flow down his cheeks. The face is rendered with great gentleness of expression, emphasized by a warm palette of reddish-brown tones and a subtle light that highlights his features and complexion. This oil painting is on its original canvas, but the stretcher may have been replaced. Several 17th and 18th-century painters depicted Christ in this pose, drawing inspiration, among others, from a painting by Mignard, as the Passion of Christ was a very common subject in European religious painting. The painting is presented in a large giltwood frame that appears to be later than the canvas and showcases it perfectly. It is in used condition; the varnish has yellowed slightly with age. No overpainting is apparent. This painting is in its original condition. Ideal for a private chapel or Baroque decor. Framed dimensions: 65 cm x 61 cm. Image size: 51 cm x 46 cm.
