Eastern Style Soup Tureen - Late 18th Century
Eastern European Tureen - Late 18th Century. Polychrome covered tureen, fired at low temperature. Mushroom/pear finial, "rocaille" base. Molded shape. Lid with combed rim. Fine bouquet decoration in the style of the Lunéville manufactory. The manufactory is from eastern France, but this remains to be confirmed: Lunéville, or elsewhere? This piece has suffered the ravages of time and has been fully restored. Previously restored with staples partially removed (3 remain in the lid, those on the body have been cut). Numerous chips/chipping on the upper rim of the bowl have been filled and repainted. One crack remains on the base, along with traces of the stapled cracks. The heavy crazing of the piece has been partially concealed on the lid. This remains a very decorative object for the discerning collector seeking a rare piece at a reasonable price!
