"Portrait Of A 19th-century Horsewoman, Circle Of Sargent"
Late 19th-century oil on canvas, depicting the portrait of a woman in a black hat with blue eyes. Typical attire for elegant women practicing horseback riding in the 19th century. An unfinished painting, it shows some reservations and a few sketch lines still visible. Nevertheless, it displays great quality. It bears a label on the back attributing it to John Sargent, acquired in Avignon and from the Scalbert collection. The Scalbert family descended from a line of bankers in northern France in the 19th century. Condition: The frame is not original; the stretcher is slightly larger than the rabbet (1 cm enlargement will be necessary). Good overall condition, traces of restoration on the back with corresponding overpainting. Dimensions excluding frame: 55 x 45 cm
