Set Of Ten Plates From The Porcelain Service Commissioned By Madame Sarah Bernhardt
A set of ten plates from the porcelain dinner service commissioned by Madame Sarah Bernhardt around 1895 for her fort at Pointe des Poulains on Belle-Île-en-Mer, a property acquired by the artist in 1894.
This incomplete dinner service comprises :
- 5 dinner plates
diameter: 23.2 cm
- 5 dessert plates
diameter: 21.3 cm
Each plate is decorated with a gilt heraldic griffin, accompanied by the motto "QUAND MÊME" (Even So), Sarah Bernhardt's personal motto.
The rim is adorned with a coat of arms featuring a gilt heraldic griffin, enhanced by a gilt band running around the edge.
The set was produced by the Pillivuyt factory around 1895.
The porcelain is in perfect condition :
no cracks
no chips
no missing pieces
Note
Slight wear to the gilt bands on some pieces, normal wear due to age and use.
