Bronze Incense Burner "gold Splash" From Qianlong Period (1735-1796)
Patinated bronze incense burner from the Qianlong period (1735-1796) 18th century.
The technique involves blown gold onto the bronze, known as "gold splash."
It bears a hallmark on the base and is decorated with two mythological lion heads.
While bronze gilding in China dates back to the Han dynasty, the gold splash technique appeared in this form during the Song dynasty.
This method was reserved for the most prestigious bronzes and continued into the 19th century.
