A rare and elegant large bench, also suitable as a daybed, in the Louis XVI style, made around 1900. This model is distinguished by the absence of a fixed backrest, a characteristic that allows it to be used against a wall, with cushions placed behind it to create a true sofa. The structure rests on four fluted column uprights, terminating in carved pine cones, and rising on tapered legs, true to the neoclassical style. These uprights are connected by a wide, channeled apron, which fits into solid connecting blocks carved with large rosettes, the whole demonstrating particularly meticulous joinery. As the back of the seat is unfinished, this bench was designed from the outset to be placed against a wall, probably in a decorated interior, where it served as a refined occasional seat or daybed. This is a beautiful piece of joinery, most likely made to order, probably for an interior decorator, which explains the extreme rarity of this model, seldom found in the everyday furniture of the period. The frame is made of thick, particularly sturdy beechwood. It supports a 180 x 60 cm mattress, comfortably 20 cm thick, resting on a webbed base. The entire piece is perfectly stable and in good condition: the webbing has been replaced, the mattress is new, and all the fabric and trimmings have just been redone. The textile used is a high-quality fabric, the "Les Chenapans" pattern from Brunschwig & Fils. It is a printed cotton, inspired by 18th-century French decorative fabrics, featuring picturesque scenes, figures, plants, and exotic motifs, in a refined and decorative style. The ensemble is enhanced by matching trimmings, adding depth and elegance to the piece. This daybed combines neoclassical aesthetics, modern comfort, and quality craftsmanship, and will find its place naturally in a classic interior, a charming residence, or an 18th-century-inspired setting. Dimensions: Mattress dimensions: 180 × 60 cm; Total width: 196 cm; Depth: 67 cm; Seat height: 57 cm; Total height with cushions: 95 cm
