Natsume Japanese Lacquered Tea Caddy With Paulownia And Chrysanthemum Design - Japan
A natsume tea caddy, used for matcha tea in the tea ceremony. Made of black lacquered wood with negoro trim on the lid. The exterior is decorated with floral motifs and Japanese emblems representing the paulownia tree (for democracy) and the chrysanthemum (for the emperor) in makie gold lacquer. A beautifully crafted piece demonstrating mastery of various lacquer techniques. For the tea ceremony, the tea master selects objects according to the season, guests, and events.
