The exterior is decorated with floral motifs and Japanese emblems representing the paulownia tree (for democracy) and the chrysanthemum (for the emperor) in makie gold lacquer. A beautifully crafted piece demonstrating mastery of various lacquer techniques. For the tea ceremony, the tea master selects objects according to the season, guests, and events.
