An elegant rectangular box made of wood and marquetry, likely crafted in England during the second half of the 19th century.

The upper part is richly decorated with engraved and highlighted ornamental motifs, arranged in several geometric panels. The center of the lid features a lithograph on paper (arte povera), framed by a design of plant motifs and foliage. The borders are adorned with repeating friezes with Oriental-inspired accents, giving the piece a particularly decorative character.

The box rests on four gilded brass feet, decorated with shells and foliage, which give it the elegant appearance of a small piece of furniture. The front features a lock, reflecting its function as a chest designed to store valuable objects, jewelry, papers, or personal effects.

With its sophisticated decoration combining dark wood, gilded motifs, and gilded bronze, this box is fully in keeping with the decorative tastes of the Victorian period. English boxes from this period were often used as jewelry boxes, letter boxes, or storage boxes, featuring particularly elaborate decorations.
