Superb Louis XIV period mirror with silvered carved wood sides. Mercury glass and original silvering. Good condition, some wear to the silvering. Beautiful patina. This mirror reflects the taste of the period for silvered furniture, initiated by Louis XIV's solid silver furnishings at Versailles, and lost during the great silver meltings undertaken to replenish the kingdom's coffers after years of war. Late 17th/early 18th century.
