Bamana culture, Mali, first half of the 20th century, superb zoomorphic "Ciwara" crest mask evoking a stylized antelope with two long vertical horns, called Daje in Bamana. Made of hardwood, the patina from use is a dark brown color. This crest is worn with a fiber costume during agrarian rites. The sculpture, although traditional and ancient, is incredibly modern due to the prominent nasal appendage reminiscent of Dora Maar's nose in Picasso's paintings. Dimensions: Height 61 x Width 16 x Depth 16 cm. Provenance: Private collection. The scale reference in the last photograph is a small lighter from a well-known brand. Good condition.
