China, late Yuan dynasty, early Ming dynasty, 14th – 15th century and possibly older, superb bronze statue of Kwan Yin, goddess of mercy. Depicted seated in the so-called "royal ease" position on a raised lotus throne, she wears a diadem and is dressed in formal attire. She holds a lotus bud in her right hand. Unusual piece with a green and red patina on a dark background (a sign of great antiquity).
Height 12.9 cm. The scale indicator in the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a well-known brand.
Provenance: very fine private collection of Asian art.
