Large Clock Portico Watchmaker : Caillot 1830
Portico
clock, a fabulous contrast between its blackened, French-varnished wood
and its gold gilding. Stamped by the clock maker and by a watchmaker,
"Caillot," who crafted the mechanism's chassis, the final assembler.
The second clockmaker's name has been erased; it is located in the
cartouche on the dial; it can be partially read "à Paris" thanks
to the difference in gilding.
Sturdy wooden construction covered with a magnificent, very smooth and glossy blackened wood veneer. The whole has benefited from a French-varnish finish, providing contrast, shine, and protection, with a "mirror" effect. For example, the reflection of the pendulum can be seen.
Very high-quality and very finely chiseled ornamentation in mercury-gilded bronze.
"Annular" dial composed of a white enamel disc.
Original mechanism without modification, striking the hours and half-hours on an antique bell.
