Large Directoire period clock, with dial signed Piolaine in Paris. Very rare model with caryatids in antique patinated bronze. Oblong base in white Carrara marble decorated with a frieze of "loves" in the spirit of Clodion. Dial surrounded by falls of drapery and trimmings. Upper terrace crowned with a cupid surrounded by a brazier and a ewer. Beautiful period movement, wire suspension, with complication: date. (revised) Original hands and dial, marked Piolaine in Paris. Strikes the hour and half hour, pretty gong. Michel François PIOLAINE, one of the most famous clockmakers of the period in Paris.
