Jean Martin-Roch (1905-1991)
Born in Aix-en-Provence, a self-taught artist nourished by museums and travel, he became involved in the artistic circles of Montparnasse between the two World Wars, dividing his time between Provence, Paris, and London, alongside Arbus. The acquisition of the Pierredon Abbey in 1951 marked a decisive turning point, making this place the heart of his work and his collection. Exhibitions in 1936 at the Renou-Colle Gallery and the Cantini Museum, followed by the exhibition at the Gastou Gallery in Paris in 2007, marked his rise to recognition.
