Jean Després Bracelet, 1940s, Yellow And Rose Gold, Diamonds
Artist: Jean Despres
Jean Després, a French goldsmith and jewelry designer, is known for his "modernist" style. Inspired by aeronautical mechanics after the First World War, he created avant-garde pieces, breaking free from the conventions of classical jewelry, working primarily with silver and pewter, without precious stones, in the 1920s. This bracelet dates from the 1940s. It stands in contrast to this style, making it a rare piece from this renowned jeweler. The bracelet is composed of two 750°° (18 KT, eagle's head hallmark) golds in yellow and rose hues. Quite substantial, in keeping with the jeweler's style, it is made of articulated plates, giving it the volume of a cuff. At their center, thick, twisted filigree ribbons frame elements delicately set with rose-cut diamonds in platinum. The twisted effects echo the swirls that form the contours of the plates. The overall effect is a piece of jewelry more in line with the codes of classic jewelry, with its luxurious and meticulous craftsmanship. Its clasp is a ratchet, enhanced with a safety chain. It bears the jeweler's hallmark. Gross weight: 38.20 g. Condition: imperceptible micro-scratches, natural inclusions in the diamonds not visible to the naked eye.
