Orientalist Self-portrait
Artist: Emmanuel De Dieudonné (1845-1889)
Heavily influenced by Cabannel, Emmanuel de Dieudonné was an Orientalist painter deeply inspired by Turkey. This large painting is probably a self-portrait of the artist in Ottoman attire. The inscription in the upper left corner means "Given to God." The painting is also signed in the lower left corner. The wooden and gilt-studded frame, decorated with palmettes, lions, and flowers, is remarkably fine. There is evidence of restoration on the back.
