Small portrait of an Algerian girl in profile, wearing traditional clothing and headdress. Small Amazigh tattoos adorn her face. The work is set in a finely carved wooden frame with vegetal and geometric motifs.

Francisque Noailly (1855-1942) was a French Orientalist painter. Initially trained at the Beaux-Arts de Marseille, he then entered the Beaux-Arts de Paris under William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury. In 1875, he did his military service with the Zouaves regiment in Algeria and decided to settle permanently in Algiers, where he married and opened a studio. He specialized in portraits and landscapes depicting scenes of local life, and also distinguished himself as a copper and pewter chaser. Regularly taking part in exhibitions, he was a member of the Union artistique de l'Afrique du Nord and vice-president of the Société des artistes orientalistes algériens.
