This enormous rondel dagger is traditionally associated with the weaponry of the Landsknechts, although it is only one of the models found. In those distant times, no weaponry was standardized. It is from Germanic origin and can be dated to the 16th century. This type of weapon is particularly uncommon, firstly because few Landsknecht daggers have survived, and secondly because of its very large size. One can easily assume that its owner must have been of particularly imposing stature.
BLADE : It is quadrangular, very powerful, and designed to penetrate the weak points of the opponent's armor. The first third is decorated with geometric patterns of lines and dots.
Blade length = 36.7 cm, width at the ricasso 17.5 mm, thickness at the ricasso 15 mm.
GUARD : Identical to the pommel, it consists of two thick iron discs connected by a perforated cylindrical section. Guard diameter = 5 cm, thickness 11 mm.
POMMEL : Same construction as the guard. The blade tang is riveted directly to the pommel. Diameter 5 cm, thickness 11 mm. GRIP : It has six faces that gradually widen from the guard to the pommel. These faces are covered with leather that appears very old and decorated with iron studs.
