Shepherd's Star, Henri Louis Levasseur (1853-1934), Bronze, France, 19th Century

Bronze sculpture entitled "Shepherd's Star," meaning the shepherd's star. This name, along with that of morning/evening star, was given to the planet Venus, inseparable companion of the rising and setting sun. The figure represents Venus as a young woman, barely veiled by a cloth and holding a crescent moon.

Henri Louis Levasseur (1853-1934) - French sculptor, student of Auguste Dumont and Eugène Delaplanche. He specialized in mythological, historical, and religious representations. His sculptures are characterized by the plasticity of the material and an extraordinary ability to render detail. He regularly exhibited his works at the Paris Salons. His works are featured in numerous prestigious cultural and artistic institutions, such as the Orangerie in the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris and the Moscow Museum of Fine Arts.
