"Pair Of Silver Equestrian Ornaments, American, 20th Century"
A pair of large, finely chased American silver equestrian ornaments, each depicting a horse's hoof encircled by a wreath of oak leaves. Inside the horseshoe are the arms of the United States of America: an eagle holding a ribbon fluttering above stars in its beak, an olive branch in its talons, and arrows on the other side, around which is inscribed the word "Liberty." The upper portion is decorated with chased stirrups and a horseshoe connecting them. The other ornament, in the center, features two figures on either side of a shield: a mariner holding an anchor and sextant, and a Native American armed with a bow, all surmounted by a rampant eagle and the inscription "Liberty." On the reverse, two threaded bars indicate an ornamental function and an important event. These ornaments are unmarked. 20th century. Gr 326-328
