Portrait Of Cardinal Giulio Sacchetti From The Second Half Of The 17th Century.
Artist: Cercle De Gian Battista Gaulli Dit Baciccia
Beautiful and interesting portrait of Cardinal Giulio Sacchetti of remarkable pictorial and executive quality. The representation draws inspiration from the famous portrait of the cardinal, today in the Borghese gallery, executed by Pietro Berrettini known as Pietro da Cortona, faithful painter of the Sacchetti family, who executed it in 1626 on the occasion of the elevation to the purple of the effegiato.
Our painting shows remarkable pictorial qualities and it is possible to attribute it to the close circle of another portrait painter, who had enormous success in Rome in the second half of the seventeenth century, under the star of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, it is Gian Battista Gaulli known as Baciccia (Genoa 1639 - Rome 1709). Stylistically deriving from his portraits are the chromatic harmony of colors and contrasts and the vigor and relief of the anatomy of the figure, as well as a quick and pictorial brushstroke.
The painting was relined in the nineteenth century, at which time the nineteenth-century carved and lacquered frame was probably applied.
The measurements including the frame are: 51cm x 63cm high.
We enclose with the sale a historical certificate of authenticity.
