Louis XVI Clock Dated 7 Brumaire 1789
Extremely rare historical clock dated 7 Brumaire 1789 (7 september 1789) on the movement's backplate, also signed by the clockmaker Croizier Paris (see second photo). The clock features a 31-day calendar with a winding wire mechanism, serviced by a clockmaker, and includes a sunburst pendulum and keys. It boasts a magnificent enamel dial in red, bearing the signature of the clockmaker Croizier on Rue de Bourbon and the date numerals. The clock is beautifully mercury-gilded with fleur-de-lis hands. The semicircular portico clock is crafted from gray Turquin and white marble, with mercury-gilded bronze mounts and original gilding. It is richly decorated with chains and tassels, friezes, and a small chained pot on a base in the center. This clock is emblematic of the French Revolution, commemorating the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789. It is rare because everything is original and from the period.
