Mythological Hercules Pendulum
A mercury-gilt bronze clock depicting the mythological hero Hercules standing, holding his club, a symbol of his strength, and the golden apples from the Garden of the Hesperides. He wears a short tunic, and his shoulder is covered by the skin of the Nemean lion, recalling one of his twelve labors. The base is richly ornamented with a relief frieze composed of interlacing foliage, branches, and plant motifs, a bow, quiver, and club, centered by a lion's head. The movement is set within a rocaille decoration evoking a rock. The clockwork movement has been serviced by a watchmaker and includes a pendulum and keys. Height 39 cm / Base (feet) 31 x 13 cm.
