This shipyard played a crucial role in the construction of the Venetian empire, enabling the rapid production of numerous ships. Due to its size, its age, and the ingenuity of its design and operation, it can be considered one of the first truly "industrial" sites to appear in Europe. Carlo Naya (1816-1882) was one of the pioneers of photography in Italy. After studying law in Pisa, he settled in Venice in St. Mark's Square to open one of the largest establishments dedicated to photography of his time.
