**************

Very rare pewter wine pitcher in a baluster shape with a depressed base, flared bowl, and acorn-shaped thumb rest, fitted with a gauging cone. The body is decorated with two turned moldings and fillets.
Unpublished hallmark of Nicolas VILLEMIN, received as a master before 1692: large crowned fleur-de-lis / NV.
Height: 21.3 cm.
Gauge cone: 0.659 liters, which is equivalent to the "Pot" of 2.636 liters
MIRECOURT, circa 1700 and before 1713, as his widow did not continue the business.

First recorded use of this hallmark and likely the only known example from this center's production.
The piece is in very good condition and early in its period, produced using the longitudinal casting method known as "shell casting," which involves melting two symmetrical parts and then soldering them together vertically. This technique was abandoned at the end of the 17th or beginning of the 18th century in favor of radial casting.
This small center located near Nancy has therefore adopted its typology.
Bibliography: "Etains de Lorraine" by Bertrand Bergbauer, who cites this master.
