Hience : Sterling Silver Teapot, Charles X Period - Ram's Head, Mascaron
Extraordinary large Charles X period silver teapot in solid silver. The ovoid body rests on a base chased with a frieze of water leaves, with a repeating decoration on the upper part. A spectacular spout is adorned with palmettes and terminates in a ram's head with a floral crown. The handle is made of blackened wood with a mascaron attachment. The monogram “JE” is on the body. It bears the hallmarks of 1st standard silver (.950), known as the Vieillard mark, and the guarantee mark for PARIS 1819-38, as well as the hallmarks of the master silversmith Antoine HIENCE (hallmark with the initials “AH” and two saltire anchors), registered in 1798, cancelled in 1828.
