Rare Double Pewter Dinner Carrier - Langres (champagne), 18th Century
Free shipping within mainland France via La Poste or Mondial Relay.
**************
Very rare double dinner carrier, elongated ovoid in shape, with a quarter-round foot and groove, a flat, swinging handle with rosette attachments, and a slightly domed lid with a top-shaped handle.
Hallmark: crowned C / LANGRE / 1738.
Height: 33 cm.
LANGRES (CHAMPAGNE), Between 1738 and 1756.
The 1756 hallmark is recorded and therefore dates this object before that date.
In very good condition and of high quality, with a beautiful, acquired, lustrous patina. This is the third example to appear on the market in the last forty years.
This object was cast in two identical parts, then welded together in opposite directions, a construction evidenced by the internal median weld.
Bibliography: The Chaumont Museum, in its publication entitled "Les ETAINS HAUT-MARNAIS" (Haut-Marne Tins), reproduces an identical piece featuring the same rosettes on the handle attachments.
