Portrait Of A Young Noblewoman, 17th Century, Louis XIV, Marquise, In The Entourage Of Mignard, Gobert, And Fontanges
Artist: Entourage Mignard Gobert
Portrait of a young noblewoman from the 17th century. She is depicted half-length in a graceful and restrained pose, holding a red silk drape that contrasts with a sumptuous blue garment embellished with gold embroidery. She wears the hairstyle popularized at Versailles under Louis XIV by the young Marquise de Fontanges. Her hair caught on a branch, leaving her disheveled, she spontaneously gathered it up, thus launching the fashion for this hairstyle, which took her name. The delicate treatment of the young woman's face, her luminous complexion, and the presence of her gaze testify to the talent of the unknown artist. It evokes the refinement of female portraits of this period by Pierre Mignard or Gobert. This painting is in its original condition, just as I found it. It appears to be on its original canvas. The varnish has yellowed slightly with age; a lightening would restore more vibrant colors, but it's not essential, as it retains the charm of its long history. This portrait from the Grand Siècle is presented in a 19th-century giltwood frame. Dimensions with frame: 82 cm x 67 cm. Image size: 69 cm x 53 cm.
