"Satsuma Ceramic Tea Set From Japan, Early 20th Century "
A Satsuma stoneware tea set from Japan, dating from the late Meiji/early Taisho period, circa 1900-1920. Marked on the underside of all pieces. Decorated with polychrome enamel and gold highlights, the set features a lively landscape of three young women in kimonos by the water in front of a torii gate, with Mount Fuji in the background. The design continues with a pagoda by the water and mountains in the distance. A raised enamel frieze adorns the upper part of the pieces, decorated with phoenixes. The set is of high quality overall. In good condition, one handle has been reattached, and there are some dark stains on the bottom of the cups. The teapot is 15cm high, the saucers 13.5cm in diameter, and the cups 9.5cm in diameter at the rim.
