Large, lively landscape, French school, after the circle of Hubert Robert, 19th century. Depicting ancient stone ruins, populated by shepherds and their animals, in the Italian countryside. Oil on canvas. The painting that certainly served as a model for ours, attributed to the circle of Hubert Robert (1733-1808), was offered at auction by Bonhams - London, October 28, 2009, lot no. 186 (last figure). Note some liberties taken with the original, with the addition, in our landscape, of two shepherds and a bovine in the foreground.
