Pair Of Louis XIV Period Candlesticks
Pair of silver-plated bronze candlesticks, Louis XIV period, early 18th century. With cut sides. Hallmarked with a crowned "C" on one. In France, with the difficulties linked to the Wars of the Austrian Succession, a provisional tax was applied from February 1745 to February 1749. It applied to "old and new" copper and bronze, which were then systematically marked with a crowned "C". Thus, like our earlier pair of candlesticks, typical of the early years of the 18th century, certain works were taxed when they were re-marketed.
