"Gilt Bronze Plaque Of St. Charles Borromeo, Early 17th Century"
A gilt bronze plaque, likely Italian, from the early 17th century, depicting Saint Charles Borromeo. This figure, from the Lombard aristocracy, was a cardinal and archbishop of Milan. A key figure in the Catholic Reformation following the Council of Trent, he was canonized in 1610 by Pope Paul V. Our plaque dates from this period and was likely made to commemorate the event. It is in very good condition, with the gilding remarkably well preserved. Dimensions: 13.5 x 11 cm
