Lelong (jr Feyerabend), Still Life In Gouache Circa 1800
Artist: Johann Rudolph Feyerabend, Dit Lelong (1779 - 1814)
Fine gouache by Johann Rudolf Feyerabend (known as Paul Lelong), an artist who, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, specialized in these small still lifes on stone pedestals. Never identical, but always executed in a similar style, with great attention to detail, they are easily recognizable and prized for their delicacy. The one we are presenting features a small temple with flaming hearts, a sugarloaf, a precious neoclassical vase containing a bouquet of flowers, a carafe, a knife used to cut citrus fruits arranged in an earthenware bowl, a rose, and a lilac blossom... Beautiful Empire-style palmette frame. Very good overall condition apart from a trace of damp visible to the right of the temple (actually barely noticeable). Image dimensions: 21.5 x 16 cm. Overall dimensions: 31 x 26 cm.
