The sculpture depicts a young woman with slightly stylized features, characterized by a long, tapered neck and hair gathered in a low, colorful hairstyle. The work is made of terracotta painted in dark colors, as the artist wanted to recreate an effect reminiscent of bronze sculptures.
Luigi (Gino) Zattoni (Salerno 1903 - Forlì 1994) was an Italian artist, an eclectic man with multifaceted interests. From a very young age, he was drawn to the world of geometry, technical drawing, and physics, and learned how to work with many types of metals and more. Mingle with intellectuals, painters, and sculptors, Zattoni began painting landscapes and portraits in oil and sculpting bas-reliefs in stone. He later began modeling clay, creating figures that he fired in a kiln to make ceramics.
He never wanted to exhibit his works in public, despite the urging of friends and family: he believed he still had to improve.
